Former AKERCOCKE Guitarist Joins SKALDIC CURSE

February 17, 2007

Former AKERCOCKE guitarist Paul Scanlan has reportedly joined the London-based black/prog metal band SKALDIC CURSE. Scanlan will make his live debut with the group tonight (Saturday, February 17) at the Purple Turtle in Camden Town, London. This will mark Paul's first live appearance since he was ousted from AKERCOCKE in 2004.

According to AKERCOCKE's official biography, Scanlan was fired from the band for not being dedicated and contributing the wrong atmosphere to the band. His replacement was Matt Wilcock, formerly of Australian metal band THE BERZERKER.

As previously reported, AKERCOCKE recently commenced the recording sessions for their as-yet-untitled album at their own Goat of Mendes Studios in West London. Frontman Jason Mendonca describes the new material as "a logical development from [2005's] 'Words That Go Unspoken, Deeds That Go Undone'. We are continuing to enhance and highlight the dynamics in our music. The contrast between light and shade is stronger in places although in essence, our new work promises to be our most violent. Expect hyperblast speeds that will shame the pretenders. Bludgeoning primitive death grooves, rancorous hate filled black metal and teutonic thrash assaults all seared with swathes of mind shredding electronica and dark, ancient textures." A late spring/early summer release via Earache Records is expected.
